Belonging, Believing, Building a Future

Our School Day

The school day starts at 8.30 when registers are taken. We ask all parents to  ensure that their child arrives in school on time and is well prepared for the school day. If a child arrives at school after 8.30, they are registered as 'late' and parents should sign the Late Arrivals sheet held in the office. (See Attendance Policy)

When children start school, in the Reception Class, parents are invited to bring their children into the classroom at the start of the school day. As the children progress through the school, parents are encouraged to say goodbye to their children in the playground, entrance hall or cloakroom areas in order to develop children's independence.

Morning break is from 10.30 - 10.45 when milk, water and fruit is available for all children.

Children have lunch at 12.00 and lunchtime ends at 1.00pm. Children can bring a picnic lunch from home or have a hot school meal.

The school day ends at 2.45pm. At the end of the day, parents wait for their children on the school playground. If normal arrangements have to be altered eg parents are delayed or arrangements have been for another person to collect a child, please let us know by completing  the sheets in the Reception class cloakroom (for Reception children) and outside the main office (for children in Classes 1 and 2) or telephoning the office.

(See 'Protocol for dealing with children not collected from school at the end of the school day or school activity')

For those families that live in Alvescot, walking to and from school is definitely the best option! There are lots of benefits; it's healthier than travelling by car, it improves the safety of pedestrians and road-users, and it respects nearby residents and parking regulations. Alternatively, there are bike-racks where children can store their scooters and bikes safely during the school day. If you do need to travel by car, please use the Village Hall, Church or The Plough car parks and always park with consideration for Alvescot residents.

"The impact of these Christian values is shown in the exemplary behaviour of the children and their growing empathy and compassion for others."
